From the Desk of President
Respect for Members, Growth of the Organization and Service to Society – My Commitment
Dear Colleagues, Respected Seniors and Fellow Ophthalmologists of Rajasthan,
Assuming the responsibility of President of the Rajasthan Ophthalmological Society is a moment of immense pride and honour for me, as well as a great responsibility. I sincerely express my gratitude to all our respected seniors, past presidents, office bearers and members who have reposed their faith in me and entrusted me with this responsibility.
Having served in various capacities in the Rajasthan Ophthalmological Society and the Jaipur Ophthalmological Society, I have gained valuable experience in organizational activities and in addressing issues concerning the professional interests of ophthalmologists.
These experiences have taught me an important lesson: the true strength of any organization does not lie in its building, financial resources or office bearers, but in the unity, participation and trust of its members.
My commitment is to respect our members, empower them professionally, strengthen our organization and expand our responsibility towards society.
With this vision, I would like to outline the key priorities of my presidential tenure:
1. ROS – An Organization That Belongs to Every Member
My foremost endeavour will be to ensure that every ophthalmologist in Rajasthan feels that ROS is truly their own organization. Whether working in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Kota, Bikaner or any other city or district of the state, every member should have equal respect, opportunities and participation.
We will strive to move forward by combining the experience and guidance of our senior colleagues with the energy, enthusiasm and fresh ideas of our younger members.
2. Safeguarding the Professional and Financial Interests of Members
The rapidly changing healthcare environment, rising operational costs, policies of insurance companies and TPAs, and evolving government regulations have created several challenges for ophthalmologists.
Protecting the professional and financial interests of our members will remain a key priority. We will work towards strengthening dialogue with insurance companies and TPAs, advocating fair and reasonable professional tariffs, providing guidance on medico-legal matters and sharing important information related to hospital administration and management.
Drawing upon my experience as Chairman of the Insurance & TPA Committee of the Jaipur Ophthalmological Society, I will endeavour to extend the successful initiatives undertaken in Jaipur to the entire state of Rajasthan.
3. Establishment of the ROS Building
One of my important goals is to establish a dedicated building for the Rajasthan Ophthalmological Society. This will provide a permanent centre for organizational and academic activities, while also facilitating accommodation and other amenities for our members and visiting colleagues from outside Rajasthan.
4. Empowerment of Young Ophthalmologists and PG Students
Young ophthalmologists are the future of our profession and our organization.
We will endeavour to provide them with greater opportunities for quality academic programmes, CMEs, research, mentorship, exposure to the latest technologies and clinical discussions.
Our objective will be to encourage young ophthalmologists from Rajasthan to showcase their talent and establish their identity at the national level.
5. A Transparent, Modern and Accountable ROS
During my previous tenures in the Society, I had the opportunity to contribute towards strengthening its administrative infrastructure, improving the management of financial resources, securing better returns on FDRs, reviving the website, introducing online membership facilities and streamlining various administrative processes.
Going forward, we will continue to focus on expanding digital facilities, maintaining financial discipline, ensuring judicious utilization of resources and promoting transparency in decision-making, thereby making ROS more efficient and member-centric.
6. Our Responsibility Towards Society
As ophthalmologists, our responsibility extends beyond treating eye diseases. We also have a larger commitment to preserving vision and improving the quality of life of people.
Through ROS, we will encourage initiatives related to eye donation awareness, blindness control, eye care camps for the underprivileged, school eye health programmes and improved access to eye care services in remote and underserved areas of Rajasthan.
7. Unity and Development of Future Leadership
I aspire to foster an organizational culture that respects the experience and wisdom of senior colleagues, provides leadership opportunities to younger members and ensures active participation of all districts and affiliated societies.
I strongly believe that positions are opportunities to serve, and that the true success of an organization depends on collective leadership and teamwork.
I look forward to your valuable suggestions, cooperation and constructive feedback in our collective endeavour to make ROS stronger and more effective.
I firmly believe that together we can build a Rajasthan Ophthalmological Society that effectively represents the interests of its members, nurtures young talent, functions with transparency and makes a meaningful contribution towards improving eye health in society.
I sincerely thank you all for your trust, support and guidance.
With warm regards,
Dr. Sandeep Vijay
President (2026–27)
Rajasthan Ophthalmological Society
